DESCRIPTION:The Workforce Solutions department at Jackson State Community College will host its ninth Fiber Optic Boot Camp on August 18-22. The five-day hands-on course will guide participants through completing three industry-standard credentials for fiber optic technicians. The boot camp at JSCC resulted from requests from area utility and telecom companies. Matthew Coffman at Jackson Energy Authority notes, “The fiber optic boot camp at Jackson State has provided JEA with high-quality fiber training with the convenience of keeping our technicians local. Our techs routinely attend the course as it’s offered.” BDI DataLynk conducts the boot camp, which is sanctioned by the Fiber Optic Association to provide standards-based instruction, which the U.S. Department of Labor recognizes. The five-day course will be held August 18-22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at JSCC’s McWherter Center in Jackson.
