The purpose of Interlibrary Loan is to obtain materials that are not owned by the JSCC Library and that can be obtained from other libraries. The service is offered to faculty, students, and staff of Jackson State Community College. To reciprocate, the JSCC Library also lends materials to other libraries.
Jackson State Community College students, faculty (full and adjunct), and staff are eligible for interlibrary loan service. In addition, JSCC alumni are also eligible.
Requests will be made for books, copies of periodical articles, and dissertations. No requests will be made for audiovisual materials, computer software, or manuscripts. The JSCC Library will fulfill no more than five requests per week per person.
Patrons should fill out their requests on the JSCC Library interlibrary loan form. The patron should fill out the form as completely as possible, listing all the appropriate bibliographic data about the materials requested. Patrons may request that copies of articles be emailed to them; however, patrons must come to the library to pick up book requests.
If an item has been identified as available at the local library, then the patron will be encouraged to get the material at the local library, rather than use interlibrary loan.
Interlibrary loan staff will notify patrons when their materials arrive. Material will be kept for two weeks at the front desk of the library after the first notification. If a patron has not picked up their book within that time, it will be returned to the lending library.
The JSCC Library will not charge library patrons for interlibrary loans unless the lending library levies a charge for the items. In that case, the patron is responsible for paying for the materials.
The patron will be notified if there is a charge for their requested item, and the patron can decide whether the transaction should still proceed if so.
OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) will be used for interlibrary loans.
If there is a need for a patron to renew materials, the Interlibrary Loan staff will make one renewal request with the lending library. The patron should request a renewal at least one week before the original due date.
It is the responsibility of the patron to pay for any charges that the lending library may impose if an item is lost, damaged or late.

Working on a research subject for a course at JSCC? Our librarians have put together a comprehensive guide for courses at JSCC to help you with research you need for your classes.
Established in 1967 alongside the college's opening, the library later added a second story in 1972 as the college grew. The college has been home to three librarians since it's opening, with Ms. Henrietta Henderson serving as the first library director until 1968 when Mr. Van Veatch took over. Following Veatch's retirement in 1991, Scott Cohen became the 3rd Library Director, continuing to build the library’s legacy during his 50+ year tenure.
