What Are Tennessee Transfer Pathways?

The Tennessee Transfer Pathways outline the course requirements for a smooth transition from a community college to a university. By following the pathway for your chosen major, you ensure that your credits will transfer without issues and avoid taking unnecessary coursework.

Popular Majors with Transfer Pathways

Many popular majors have established transfer pathways. You can find a complete list of these majors and the course requirements for each on the Tennessee Transfer Pathways website. These pathways are designed to streamline the transfer process for students pursuing various degree programs.

Guaranteed Credit Transfer & Admission

If you follow the pathway requirements exactly, your credits are guaranteed to transfer, and you are guaranteed admission to any Tennessee public university (except UT-Knoxville, where admission is competitive). While the pathways ensure admission to the university, they may not guarantee admission to specific colleges or academic programs, particularly those with limited enrollment like Nursing. It's important to consult with the university’s Admissions Office for details on program-specific requirements.

Credit Hours & Degree Requirements

Each Tennessee Transfer Pathway consists of approximately 41 general education credit hours and 19 hours of prerequisites necessary for transfer. Successfully completing all the courses in your pathway will earn you an associate degree before transferring. However, some programs may have additional requirements, meaning the total credit hours for the associate degree could exceed 60. Be sure to check the JSCC course catalog or consult your advisor to understand the specific requirements for your major.
