Other Financial Assistance for School:
In addition to available VA Benefits, you are strongly encouraged to pursue other sources of financial assistance, by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available on the JSCC Financial Aid website.
This site also features a link to estimate the total cost of your education at Jackson State, based on financial aid resources. It does NOT include the calculation of additional VA benefits you may receive.

Deferred Payment Possibility (See the VA Coordinator for details)
Students receiving VA benefits may elect to apply for a deferment of tuition and fees prior to the start of the semester.
Eligibility for Deferment of Payment of Tuition and Fees: Eligible Students Receiving U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or Other Governmentally Funded Educational Assistance Benefits may apply for deferment. The deferment amount shall not exceed the total monetary educational benefits to be received for the term. Students who have been granted deferment are expected to make timely payments on their outstanding tuition and fees balance once education benefits are delivered. Eligibility for such deferment shall terminate if the student fails to abide by any applicable rule or regulation or act in good faith in making timely payments.
Prior Learning Assessment
The VA Coordinator will obtain an official copy of each service member's Joint Service Transcript or Community College of the Air Force Transcript to review for any prior learning credit. Credit may be granted as general elective credit or specific course credit as approved by department deans.
Servicemember Opportunity Portal
Military service members and veterans can identify schools that best meet their needs through the Tennessee Higher Education Commission’s TN-Servicemember Opportunity Portal (TN_SOP). This site allows you to review all public colleges and universities in the state to identify what academic credit you can earn for your military experience.
