The Jackson State Community College Placement Services Office is available to all current and previously enrolled JSCC students to help with finding a job. While we cannot guarantee employment, we will let you know about positions for which you appear qualified and which seem to meet your needs.

Career Resource Center

Not sure what to do after college or, for that matter, what to major in while you are in college? The Jackson State Community College Placement and Career Services is ready to help you figure out where you want to go and how to get there. Of course, we can't tell you what you should do or be... that's your personal decision. What we can do is help you take a look at yourself to help identify your possibilities.

Online Career Assessments:

Holland Code Career Test - This free assessment will identify your strongest career interests among six occupational themes: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.  A list of suggested careers based on your results is provided.

ONet Interest Profiler - This free assessment can help you find out what your interests are and how they relate to the world of work.

Get My Future Interest Assessment - This free interest assessment consists of 30 quick questions that takes about five minutes to complete. Afterwards, learn about careers that might be a good fit for you.

CareerWise Career Interest Survey -  This free interest survey provides an opportunity to rate activities, personal qualities, and school subjects that you like. At the end of the survey, you will see a list of career clusters that are a good match for your interests.

Photo Career Quiz - Based on the Holland Code theory, this free, super quick quiz does not require any reading at all. Just choose the images that appeal to you most and discover your career interest areas.

16 Personalities - A  free assessment that returns a 4-letter code similar to Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Users will answer questions and be provided with detailed information about their personality type. Please note: This website provides an opportunity for the user to purchase a premium membership package that includes additional information on their personality type.

CareerOneStop - Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor this comprehensive website provides resources and tools for any stage of the career development process.
 
CareerOneStop - Career Videos - These videos show the types of work people do in nearly 550 careers, organized by the 16 career clusters recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
 
Dr. Kit - Career Videos - This site houses more than 300 videos organized in 17 different clusters. These are homemade movies in the Dr. Kit himself and some of his followers have contributed to the site.
 
Explore Health Careers - Provides information about a wide variety of health careers, profesional profiles, and the latest issues in healthcare.
 
IT Career Finder - Provides IT career path descriptions, training and certification information, a job board, video tutorials and other helpful resources for those interested in entering the field of IT.
 
Occupational Outlook Handbook - A career guide provided by the U.S. Government's Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides information on a wide range of occupations.
 
O*Net Online - This is a resource for career exploration and job analysis. It offers detailed descriptions of the world of work that can be used by students, job seekers, and more.
 

TN Work Learn and Earn - A great resource to explore careers and research educational as well as employment opportunities in Tennessee.

U.S. Department of Labor - Women's Bureau - The Women's Bureau develops policies and standards and conducts inquiries to safeguard the interests of working women. This site provides resources for women on a broad range of career pathways as well as issues in the workplace. Click on the resources tab to gain access to additional important information.

JSCC Library Career Databases

The following career databases are from the Jackson State Community College Library. Students will be asked for their JSCC Netlogon when accessing the databases.

Career Transitions - This database contains good information about careers:

  • "Job-Seeking: multi-faceted job searching and related activities for creating resumes and cover letters, applying and preparing for interviews
  • Career Exploration: discovering career interests; identifying new opportunities based on work or military experience; exploring career paths, including green and new economy jobs; and finding education and training."

Careers Internet Database - Use Careers Internet Database to find full-text, in-depth information on hundreds of careers. Each report covers education requirements, good and bad aspects of the career, interviews with people in the field and more. When you first log in, click on "Members Click Here", then click on "Career List' to search for specific careers.

Gale OneFile: Vocations and Careers - "Finding the right career can be a daunting and high stakes task: finding an appropriate institution of learning, job searching, and maintaining a career are all topics covered by this collection, providing current and applicable content for all vocational milestones. Offering content from nearly 400 journals, this collection provides content from general career guides to highly specialized industry journals."

Vocational Biographies - With this database, you can career-shadow up to 1,000 persons from across America. Click one of the 6 search buttons (Career Cluster, Career Pathway, Career Title, O*Net, DOT, Holland Code) at the top of the page. You will then get a list of titles. Click on one title, and the career story will appear on the screen for you to read or print out. 

JSCC Library E-Books

Jackson State Community College Library has several e-book collections. The following are two general collections that include career related e-books. When searching for career related e-books consider using phrases such as: Careers, Careers in Accounting, Nursing, Criminal Justice, etc., Career Choice, Career Decision Making, Jobs, or Employment. If you need help locating e-books about careers, contact the JSCC Library at 731-425-2609 or 1-800-355-5722 ext. 52609. 

EBSCO E-Books - Search the 145,000 electronic books available through the JSCC EBSCO collection. The books cover a tremendous variety of topics, all available online. Students will be asked for their JSCC Netlogin when accessing this resource.

Downloading EBSCO eBooks - Tutorial

Google Books - This source gives you access to previews of many ebooks. You cannot print or copy and paste, but you can read online.

CareerOneStop State Job Banks: Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, this website provides links to job banks across the country including Tennessee.

Crockett County Schools: This website lists employment opportunities within the Crockett County School System.

Dice: This is a free job site for technology professionals. You can search for an IT job and post your résumé for free.

Diversity Employers: This free job website offers job opportunity information with employers that support diversity.

Entry Level Job Site: This website offers career search resources to help first-time job seekers find jobs.

Glassdoor For Students: This is a great website for college students to search for internships and jobs.

Groove Job: This is a jobsite that specializes in seasonal, part-time, and hourly jobs. Users must complete the free registration which includes a résumé in order to apply for any jobs listed on the website.

I Crunch DataA platform for jobs in technology, analytics and data science.

Indeed: A worldwide employment-related search engine.

Jackson Madison County School System: This website provides information about employment opportunities with the Jackson-Madison County School System.

Job Hero: This is a resource library of job descriptions. Want to learn more about specific types of jobs? This resource provides job title overviews that include common responsibilities, skills, and qualifications. 

JOBS4TN.GOV: Sponsored by the TN Department of Workforce Development this online resource provides an opportunity to search for jobs in Tennessee as well as look up labor market information. This website also provides resource assistance for job seekers.

LinkedIn: This is a great resource that provides a powerful job search tool, career-development content, and rich media presentations designed by industry experts. To access this resource, you must be logged into Linkedin as a member or a guest.

Monster: You can search for jobs and read career advice from the experts at Monster.

Snag a Job: This free job search website lists hourly job opportunities.

TN Department of Human Resources: Looking to work for the State of Tennessee? Check out this website to find the latest career opportunities. Be sure to read through the instructions.

Tech Fetch: A great site for someone looking for an IT job.

USA Jobs: This website lists federal government jobs.

ZipRecruiter - Looking for a job? Check out this online employment marketplace.
