JSCC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Kick-off 2024-25 Season, unveil program changes

The Jackson State Community College (JSCC) Green Jay women’s and men’s basketball teams are set to embark on an exciting 2024-25 season, featuring competitive schedules against both NJCAA opponents and local NCAA DII programs. 

This season will tip off Nov. 1, inside The Nest, with the Green Jay women’s program hosting Freed-Hardeman JV, followed by another home appearance against Trevecca University JV on Nov. 5. The Green Jay men will kick off their season at home on Nov. 2, against Western Kentucky Tech and remain at The Nest for a matchup against Bethel University JV, on Nov. 6. 

Conference play for both teams will kick-off at home on Nov. 13 for the “Battle of the Birds” contest against conference rival Dyersburg State Community College. This contest is slated as a Green Out and Veteran's Appreciation Night event, with half price admission for all fans wearing JSCC Green and waiving all admission fees for veterans and their dependents. 

What’s New: 

General Admission (12 and older) $5, (5-11) $3; (4 and younger) FREE 

All Jackson State Community College students, faculty, and staff are admitted FREE with valid college ID. 

Season Passes for all home games are available for $50 each through the JSCC Athletics website at jscc.edu/seasontickets. 

Home games will now be streamed via YouTube. 

Operational Changes: 

Green Jay Athletics has now implemented a clear bag policy to align with other sporting venues nationwide to provide a safer environment for the public and expedite fan entry into The Nest. 

Jackson State Community College has implemented a protocol that limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into the gymnasium. Exceptions to this protocol will be made for all medically necessary items after proper inspection and bags meeting this new criteria will be available for sale for $5 at the door. 

Green Jay Athletics strongly encourages fans to not bring any type of bags, but fans will be able to carry the following style and size bag into The Nest: 

• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12." No buckles, grommets/hardware or decor can conceal any part of the bag. The bag must be all clear, or: 

• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar). 

• Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bag options. 

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: 

• Purses larger than a clutch bag 

• Coolers 

• Briefcases 

• Backpacks 

• Fanny packs 

• Diaper bags 

• Cinch bags 

• Luggage of any kind 

• Computer bags 

• Camera bags 

• Containers 

• Any bag larger than the permissible size outlined above 

In the past year, the JSCC Police Department has enhanced its already comprehensive safety plans with additional measures such as pat downs, bag checks and metal detectors to ensure fan safety.
