Inaugural Green Jays & Ghouls Race to take place at Jackson State on Halloween
Jackson State Community College (JSCC) is set to host the inaugural Green Jays & Ghouls 1 Mile Race and Fun Run on Saturday, October 31, at the college’s Jackson campus. Runners, families, and community members are invited to participate in this event that will combine friendly competition, festive costumes, and community spirit to raise funds for the Jackson State Track & Field Club.
“Green Jays & Ghouls is an opportunity to bring our campus and community together for a fun, family-friendly event while supporting our student athletes and expansion of Green Jay Athletics,” said Arthur Priddy, Head Cross Country and Half Marathon Coach. “We look forward to welcoming runners, families, and Halloween enthusiasts of all ages for a great morning and a great cause.”
Designed for runners of varying ages and abilities, the event will feature a certified, mostly flat one-mile course that offers an opportunity for participants to pursue a personal record or simply enjoy a morning of fitness and fun. A dedicated costume run will also give younger participants and Halloween enthusiasts a chance to join in the festivities.
To add to the Halloween theme of the event, Student Athletes from Jackson State will be handing out candy throughout the event, making this the perfect way to kickstart Halloween.
To accommodate participants across age groups and running paces, three race events will be offered:
- 8 a.m. — One-Mile Timed Race: Ages 20 and older
- 8:30 a.m. — One-Mile Timed Race: Ages 14–19
- 9:00 a.m. — One-Mile Timed Race and Costume Fun Run: Ages 0–13 and costume-run participants
Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each race, as well as the top three finishers in each age group.
All proceeds and donations from the event will support training and travel expenses for the Jackson State Track & Field Club as its student-athletes prepare for the 2027 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. Community participation will help provide valuable opportunities for student-athletes to train, compete, and represent JSCC.
The event is open to students, their families, and the West Tennessee community. Participants are encouraged to gather their friends and family, wear their favorite Halloween costumes, and join the Green Jay community for a spirited morning supporting Green Jay Athletics.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged and is available online at jscc.edu/runjscc. Those that pre-register by Friday, Oct. 16 will receive an event t-shirt. Additional shirts may be available on race day but are not guaranteed.
Participants registering on race day can do so at the registration table. Cash will be accepted for race-day registration.
