Political Demographer and Professor of International Studies at Rhodes College, Dr. Jennifer Sciubba will visit Jackson State Community College (JSCC) to discuss her book “8 Billion and Counting: How Sex, Death, and Migration Shape Our World” on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m.

Dr. Sciubba is an internationally recognized expert in political demography and global security. Her book, “8 Billion and Counting: How Sex, Death, and Migration Shape Our World” explores the power of population change to create the conditions for societal transformation. The book takes a closer look at countries that have led the global order since World War II and how they are becoming the most aged societies in human history.

“We are excited to have Dr. Sciubba as a guest speaker to present the research of her book and further discuss the significance of this historical milestone,” said Chair of Languages and Literature and Global Learning Coordinator, Dr. Anna Esquivel. “Our world is everchanging and what better way for our students to learn than from an internationally recognized expert on the topic? This will be an insightful event and we encourage students as well as the public to attend.”

This timely presentation comes just before Nov. 15 – the date designated by the United Nations as the day the global population will hit eight billion.

The event will take place in the JSCC Nursing Building conference room located in room 203. This event is free and open to the public to attend. A virtual option is available at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85949791442
