SAILS (Seamless Alignment and Integrated Learning Support)
SAILS introduces the college developmental math curriculum in the senior year of high school. By embedding the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Learning Support Math program in the high school Bridge Math course, students can get a head start on their college careers. Students who complete the program are ready to take a college math course, saving them time and money while accelerating their path to graduation.
Students who take the ACT their junior year and score less than 19 in Math are required to take the Bridge Math course their senior year. SAILS Program Overview
Advantages to Students
SAILS transforms math education for students who have struggled in traditional settings. By blending online instruction with personalized support, SAILS helps students succeed where they previously struggled. Participants can save up to three semesters and $1,500 in college tuition. Completing the program in the fall makes students eligible for college-level math in the spring and potential Dual Enrollment Grant funds.
Goal: Graduation
SAILS is designed to boost both college enrollment and graduation rates. While dual enrollment programs typically cater to top students, SAILS opens these early college opportunities to all students, leveling the playing field.
The Time is Right
Tennessee is focused on increasing college graduation rates through initiatives like the College Complete Act and the Tennessee Diploma Project. SAILS, by partnering TBR community colleges with local high schools, aligns perfectly with these statewide goals.
Innovative Learning Approach
SAILS introduces a blended learning model, combining online instruction with individual support, making math accessible to students who have struggled with traditional teaching methods. This new approach paves the way for student success in math.
For High Schools
High schools offering the Bridge Math course can enhance their curriculum by partnering with local Tennessee Community Colleges through SAILS. This program blends Bridge Math standards with college-level competencies, preparing seniors for college-level math. Schools maintain control over enrollment and daily operations while benefiting from the community college's support.
For Parents and Students
Rising seniors who scored below 19 on the ACT Math subtest can eliminate the need for remedial math in college through SAILS. This free program allows students to master necessary math competencies while earning high school credit. Students receive support from their high school teachers, coordinators, and community college faculty. Completing SAILS in the fall allows students to take a college-level math course in the spring.
Completion Certificate
Every student who completes the SAILS Learning Support program receives a certificate as their entry ticket to college-level math in any TBR college or university.
