Request for Credit Hours for Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy and/or Tennessee Corrections Academy.
Credit for Tennessee Law Enforcement/Correction Academy is designed to provide an incentive for criminal justice professionals to seek or continue higher education and, ultimately, obtain an AS or AAS degree. This program provides educational opportunities that are occupationally specific within the field of criminal justice and enhances students’ understanding of theoretical concepts by providing a context for practical cultural application.
Students completing prescribed training in 1991 or thereafter at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy may receive the following credit:
- CRMJ1010 Introduction to Criminal Justice,
- CRMJ2010 Introduction to Law Enforcement,
- and three semester credit hours of CRMJ electives.
This credit may be awarded once the student has completed a minimum of 12 college-level semester credit hours at JSCC.
Students completing prescribed training in 1993 or thereafter at the Tennessee Correction Academy may receive the following credit:
- CRMJ2020 Introduction to Corrections
- three semester credit hours of CRMJ electives.
This credit may be awarded once the student has completed a minimum of 12 college-level semester credit hours at JSCC.
Students applying for PLA credit must submit:
1) a copy of their POST certificate or correctional certificate including dates of attendance
2) a report detailing the officer’s academy grades and overall average.
Students should initially submit the above information to Karen Perrin, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, to determine the PLA award. Once determined, the information will be submitted to the Records Office.
Note: LE Academy- year of 1991 is noted because that is when the Academy was awarded accreditation by the Commission of Law Enforcement (CALEA).
Correctional Academy- year of 1993 is noted because that is when TCA became nationally accredited by the American Correctional Association.
Some law enforcement officers may receive PLA credit hours for both law enforcement and corrections.
